During this project I had a lot of fun learning more about my family. I was not really exposed to my grandmothers family besides one of her sisters. Being able to learn about her experiences on the farm and how the farm really came to be what it is now is interesting. I was given so much information that it was really hard to keep somethings out of the final edition, however I am personally really happy with how it came out.
Month: February 2024
The interview has been complete! the interview went really well, I was able to learn a lot about part of the family that I have not been exposed to. It was really nice to be able to sit down with my grandmother and learn about her experiences and what was done on the farm. Editing is almost done, I have to decide on what is to be left in the podcast and decide on the story. I still have to do a an intro and exit and pick some music.
I am tasked with interviewing a family member. I picked my grandmother on my father’s side of the family. I had picked her because she grew up on a dairy farm. I had decided on that because I personally feel like not many people are exposed to that way of life. Also, I was interested as to what her tasks on the farm had consisted of while growing up.
- Personally I belive the best podcast I have is either my first audio playground, or the post card. I was talking about something close to me each time weather it is my tattoo or when I get to go and volenteer at the science center where they have helped me jumpstart my career. I did not have to put that much thought into what I had to talk about because it felt natural to me. People have also asked me before about me volenteering and I get to share everything that I like about the science center. When I do my worst I personally think is when I do interviews. I feel very uneasy because I feel like I have to ask specific things. Also, if I dont know the person well I feel like I could be annoyung with just asking a bunch of questions. I feel very robotic when I ask my questions, especially when I write them down.
- My best moments would defiantly be during my audio postcard, I got to share my future plans and get to share a place I love going. I did a little prep for the podcast, but I knew what I wanted to talk about. I related to enjoying the moments where I was sharing my enthusiasm. When it does come to my audio tour, I wanted it to be a little laid back as I was just feeling very relaxed when I got my tattoo done. it is something that is really intimate to me as I will wear long sleeves a lit to protect it and because it is something about me that people will eventually find out about.

I love cooking, probable from my love of watching hells kitchen, or any other Gordon Ramsay show. However I know it doesn’t always go to plan and sometimes it is frustrating. Well this happened for me today, nothing went to plan. Although my dog Bailey was with me every step of the way. Sometimes something as simple as an egg sandwich doesnt go to plan but that is life!
I unfortunately was not bale to record a voicemail so I made one up. When I was younger we would go up to a summer house that my grandparents have owned. To get there we have to cross the border obviously but we also have to take a ferry to get to the island. There isn’t much up there but I have some of my best childhood memories from there. I was able to go there for the first time in almost 10 years last semester when we had a long weekend. The airline is a very long road in the middle of nowhere past Bangor, ME. The only thing really on the road is blueberry farms and trees, you always lose phone service because of it being so remote.
Today I had went back to New Hampshire, the great state that I hail from. I volunteer my time at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH. I love going here because I have been before on field trips from elementary school. They have also helped me with getting my foot into the door with working in aquariums, something I aspire to do in my future. I get to work with people who come and are interested in the marine life of the Gulf of Maine, along with a small exhibit of tropical fish. I tend to work in the Gulf of Maine exhibit because it reminds me mostly of actual aquariums and it has the most to show. I get to open up a small touch tank where I can let people get up and close with the American lobster. I get to share what knowledge I have, even though there is s much to absorb its all interesting to me. I am beyond thankful for them helping me with everything they can as I hopefully will have an opportunity to join the animal care team expanding my foothold on my future.
To me a soundscape is an audio representation of the environment you are in, regardless of the size it can be as small as jst working in an office to a whole neighborhood. The sounds represent something that is present either in everyday life or just in the moment. Right now, if I were to make a soundscape of doing this assignment it would be me at work, listening to someone else do their job and the noises he makes. the music playing in the lobby and the light whirl of the computers that are running. If I were to go outside, I would hear some music still playing and I would also hear the waves of the ocean hitting the rocks and the other waves. I would hear the wind blowing by my ears.
I had listened to the Utopia audio, right away I could tell I was not listening to something at was inside. With the sounds of nature by the water rushing down the stream and the birds. It brings back memories along with the windchimes of working outside during the summer as a landscaper. the music playing is calming just like being outside on a nice day is, just living in the moment.
I had the opportunity to interview Megan Crosby, in which it was interesting to learn about her and make a new friend. When I conducted this interview, it was not the easiest as I tend to just hang back and keep to myself but after just talking with Megan, I realized that I had a good time talking to her and she is a cool person. While my interviewing skills are not the best, I do hope to gain more comfortability and sound more natural, I realized that once we were done with the interview and just talking, we do have a lot in common. Even with the age difference between Megan and me, with us both going to college and taking this class there isn’t much difference between someone who went to college right out of high school, and someone who ended up leaving college for four years before returning. Another thing I realized when editing this was how easy it was to really talk to someone and get to know them when the only thing we may have in common is the fact that we are taking CMM 225 together, as we are both in different majors I will tend to have a lot of classes with the same people but being exposed to someone studying something completely different than me was fun!
Every day I look at my tattoo sleeve on my left arm. It is definitely my favorite tattoo and explains my life and my future life work. I had returned to school to pursue a degree in marine biology but changed to Aquaculture and Aquarium science so I could be more hands on and learn more about fish health. I see corals on the bottom at my wrist because it all starts with the environment. Coral reefs produce enough to be a home for fish and other marine life, I started my career working in the clown fish lab here at UNE. There are anemones within the reef and a star fish. There are also clown fish there that pay homage to the clown fish lab, along with a couple of yellow tangs which are also there. Above is my favorite shark which is a black tip reef shark. They are not big, but they are beautiful to look at. The true reason why I returned to school was to work in Florida manatee and sea turtle rehabilitation, there is a manatee on my arm that I can see every day and it motivates me. The manatee is a peaceful animal that has no natural predators and does not prey on anything else but sea grass, they are gentle and slow, unfortunately people do not care and are selfish when it comes to boating and will hit them. On the back side of my arm is a sea turtle that is swimming to the surface of the water. On the beach is a hermit crab under some palm trees, signifying where I would like to work one day; Florida, a place where I know I can make a difference every day and right away. Animals throughout the world cannot advocate for themselves, I am here to do that for them and to protect them as I would like to see people and animals live together in a better world. Conservation isn’t just for the land, it is also for the ocean and protecting the animals that call it home.
